SOFF at COP29 – join us!

This year, the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) is meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan from 11-22 Nov. Systematic Observations are critical and recognized as early as the convention. Basic weather and climate data collected and shared by countries through SOFF support and the global forecast products built on this data provide the basis for national meteorological and hydrological services, which further inform national climate mitigation and adaptation plans, therefore Nationally Determined Contributions and National Adaptation Plans, and strengthens the data going into the Global Stocktake. Therefore, SOFF further strengthens its engagement with partners at COP29.

SOFF at UNFCCC mandated event Earth Information Day, 13.00-16.00:  SOFF will be at plenary of the Earth Information Day, providing an update on “Bridging observation gaps, role of SOFF and innovative financing models”.

12 November

“Scaling-up climate finance for ambitious action on early warning systems for adaptation” 18.30-20.00: Global temperatures rise, the frequency and intensity of hazardous weather events disproportionately. The UN SG’s Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative aims to enhance adaptation, foster resilience, and reduce loss and damage through timely, actionable and effective multi-hazard warning system, by WMO, in Room 3 (Blue Zone).
