The Letter of Intent showcases the strengthened partnership between SOFF and the African Development Bank (AfDB) towards addressing Africa's urgent basic weather and climate observation data needs.
This partnership underscores a united effort to close Africa’s basic weather and climate data gaps. By leveraging SOFF’s long-term grant-based finance and technical assistance alongside AfDB’s Climate Action Window (CAW), the partnership aims to ensure timely financing for accurate early warnings for Africa’s most vulnerable countries. This is a transformative step forward, strengthening the UN's Early Warnings for All initiative.
Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization and SOFF Steering Committee Co-chair and Kevin Kariuki, Vice-President, Power, Energy Climate Change & Green Growth in AfDB, signed the letter at COP29.
